Fair enough. I accept your case. However, I believe that we 'Goans' (all of
us, whether we are writers, readers or speakers or all of them in one) need
to share the blame for where the Konkani is today. If only our forefathers
(some 400 years ago) had to stage a demonstration against the Portuguese who
totally sidelined Konkani in favour of Marathi in Goa, we Goans would have
reaped the benefits [
even if some of us would not be there to share the reap since the Portuguese
were sure to eliminate most of these protestors :-)]
And BTW, I salute you for noticing the 'PALDADACHO' in my original Subject
line where none so far has done so. I could have said that I really put it
as 'PALDADACHO' just to see the reaction of the readers. But no. The truth
is that it is a typo-error which passed off uncorrected.
Now coming back to the reality, I have said that I have not seen the movie.
And today, the Navhind Times has to say on its page 8.

Since I have been scouring the papers for such an ad since the self-made
controversy on 'PALTADACHO', I called the number to make the booking for two
for this evening at 6 p.m. And this is what I told 'Jayesh' who answered the
phone.
Jayesh, pls take note to tell Mr. Shetgaonkar, that I take exception to the
konkani words 'Paltadacho' / Puldodcho/ etc. etc which are not konkani words
as far as I am concerned by virtue of being born a Goan in Goa and having
been a blue-blooded Goan all my life. What Shetgaonkar should have done as
soon as the movie was released and this 'paltadacho' anomaly pointed out to
him in Toronto itself, is to call for a press conference in Goa and declare
to the world that the original 'Paltadacho' should be read and written and
pronounced as 'POLTODCHO' [POLTODICHO- PALTODCHO- PALTODICHO- PULTODCHO
whatever] so that Goans know what it actually means. That my name is
Floriano Lobo and that I have given a press note (published by GT -
Paltadacho or Poltodcho- May 26, 2010 as the 'star letter to the Editor' to
voice my disappointment in belittling Konkani especially with a world
acclaimed Konkani movie like 'POLTODCHO MUNIS' where Goans of every walk of
life would be proud of.

I have only stated the facts as I perceive them. Whether they are one-sided
or many-sided is for the reader to judge.
I do not think the godfather of Romi Konkani and grandfather of tiatr will
take kindly your running down this cultural form in addition to not
patronizing it, for it is the mainstay of Romi Konkani sommelons; it pulls
in the crowds for some part of the duration. The politicians too know its
value; hence, come election time, they hire tiatrists to extoll their
virtues and work in song.
I do not see how a title can evoke any pride in anyone. And how can you
fault someone for not evoking such pride in you?
