Don't know if Sailors are given to 'tall ones'! On Carmona here is a clip from the Goan Observer, I don't think this is meant to be a tall story:- *CHURCHILL SUPPORT * And talking of flying squads, the reason why they are not likely to work is because the builders of mega illegal housing complexes have the patronage of the Digamber Kamat cabinet. It will be recalled that the people of Carmona have, for a long time, been opposing the mega housing complex of the Rahejas coming up in the village. Leading the opposition to the mega housing project, which would put an unbearable strain on the already stressed infrastructure of the village, was a member of the panchayat, Orlando. The whole village was against the project except a few, who are personal chamchas of the PWD minister, Churchill Alemao. Last week, to nobody’s surprise, Churchill Alemao came out openly in support of not only the Raheja project, but all mega housing projects in the state. Alemao’s heart is bleeding for the 1000-odd builders from Goa and outside Goa who hire an average of two lakh migrants on their construction project. Churchill Alemao’s argument is that if the mega housing project is stopped, there would be no development and if there is no development there would be no jobs. We would like to point out that mega housing projects do not provide jobs to Goans. And the hazards of reckless development of land and mega construction activity have been dramatised in Porvorim, which has been starving for water for over six months now because of the rash of new mega housing complexes which have come up. Maybe everybody should threaten to go and have a bath and perform their ablutions not in the office of the chief engineer of the PWD, but at the residence of the PWD minister Churchill Alemao. There are no prizes for guessing why Churchill Alemao is promoting the Raheja project. DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes.
