Nadia’s husband files for anticipatory bail HERALD REPORTER
*…says police are harassing him* MARGAO, JUNE 2 The husband of deceased Nadia Torrado has filed for anticipatory bail in the South Goa Sessions Court on Wednesday fearing arrest in the case, even as Nadia’s funeral took place at the Loutolim Church this morning. Nadia’s husband Winston Barretto filed the bail plea this morning through his lawyer Adv Srikant Naik, claiming that he fears an arrest as the police have been harassing and threatening him over the phone since Tuesday. Adv Naik said that Barretto has informed that the police came to his residence and has lifted away his laptop and mobile phone without any intimation when he was out of the house. “I was told by my client that while he was at the Hospicio hospital on Tuesday at the time of the second autopsy that he received a phone call from the police threatening him,” Adv Naik said. He further said that Winston has filed the anticipatory bail plea as the police appeared hell bent in arresting him in a non-bailable offence. Adv Naik said Sessions Court has issued notices to the police stations of Margao and Maina-Curtorim and the arguments in the case would be heard in the court on Thursday morning. In his bail application, Winston has apprehended that the police would arrest him and forcibly record his statement in connection with the case. “My client had no connection with the death since the incident occurred at Loutolim while he was putting up at Fatorda,” Adv Naik added. Meanwhile, Nadia’s funeral took place this morning at the Loutolim Church. The Sub-divisional Magistrate had handed over the body to the relatives on Tuesday evening after the second post mortem examination. After the Eucharistic celebration, Nadia’s mortal remains were laid to rest at the cemetery. Amongst the many people who attended the funeral service was Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco.
