I happened to enter the house from my long dinner walk to have my wife
switch on to HCN, to the 'Juino D'Souza' hosted debate which she knows I
like to watch whenever possible. And I just happened to catch the ending
part of the debate with eminent personages like Dr. Pramod Salgaonkar, Dr.
Hubert Gomes, Adv.Yatin Parek and Rev. Fr. Antimo Gomes. And since I have
personally interacted with two of the personages i.e Fr. Antimo Gomes and
Dr. Hubert Gomes (I wonder if they are related), my interest in the debate
was heightened.
Apparently, the topic of the debate was 'How to save Goa' or something on
those lines. And this is what Dr. Hubert Gomes said which made me jump with
joy.
"Goa was saved once", he said, "by the niz Goenkars, irrespective of their
castes, religion et al, from being merged with Maharashtra so that I. my
children, my grand children, my great grand children and their offsprings
thereof may enjoy Goa as Goa that was handed over to us by our ancestors.
But sadly what we see is that Goa is being sold left right and center from
the backdoor by our politicians and powers that be, and it is doubtful that
even our children will live to see Goa that was, forget about the grand
children and their offsprings thereafter. Goa must now get into the mode of
fighting the 2nd. Opinion Poll.... whether we want to keep our Goa, or if
we want to allow it to be sold from the backdoor". "I will do everything in
my power to see that this Opinion Poll 2 gets underway even if I have to
sacrifice my job.
And not surprisingly, there was a total agreement from every member on the
panel that this should be the priority and that this Opinion Poll No. 2 must
get underway immediately and now.
And, if I had a hot line connected to the HCN studio, I would have liked to
assure the panelists, especially Dr. Hubert Gomes that the making of the
'Opinion Poll 2' is already underway under the aegis of PPS = People for
Political Sanity' and that all he has to do is to get hold of the PPS
'sticker' as soon as possible, stick it on his 4-wheeler to take it around,
to publicize to the world that the Opinion Poll 2 is shortly going to be put
to test in the immediate near future at the ballot boxes and it would be
worthwhile if people got themselves in readiness to give an over-powering
relief to their dear Goa by changing its soiled 40 diapers for new, but with
a solid company behind the manufacturing of these new diapers so that Goa is
assured that these new diapers are resistant to being soiled in a jiffy.
