Dear Roger,
It is sad that India has turned into this den of thieves and robbers wholly
inclined to unchecked corruption and greed. The minority Christians, Muslins
and others are being marginalizes by the majority Hindu to such an extent that
when given the opportunity, these marginalized minorities would gladly opt to
leave India and go elsewhere even if it is to their detriment. We Christians in
particular, having been brought up with the fear of God and Christian values
which forbid us from many of the corrupt practices flourishing in India, are at
a true disadvantage. As you rightfully suggest, we must be more aggressive and
assertive in our efforts perusing well paid jobs in the ICS and IPS and indeed
in many of the other major Indian and Overseas corporations in order to better
exert our rights in India. If there are more people of the Christian faith
bound by our morals and traditions in power in various fields, then there could
probably be a cultural revolution in India which will probably eliminate
corruption.

Your suggestion that ICS and IPS salaries be bumped up is however questionable.
Do you think that these corrupt individuals who are accustomed to receiving
these bribes will stop if they are paid better? I doubt it. It is just like a
bear who attacks a bees hive knowing that he will get stung but still does so
every time in order to get to the sweet honey (or should I say easy money).

We Christians also have another problem. That is the question of Unity. I have
tried through my various posts to try and instill this concept into the minds
of Goans in particular. We keep on creating artificial boundaries between
ourselves that are detrimental to ourselves and our communities. Kerralites
have their differences and wont mix with other Kerralites although we worship
the same Christ and belong to the same universal Roman Catholic Church. Goans
create other boundaries like Caste, Africandar,Bomoikar, Tailor, Cook, Shippy
(Tarvoti) Gulfie, NRG (NRI) etc. We should be more broad minded and look to
what unites us rather than create these artificial barriers. We should remember
Christ's philosophy, "United we Stand Divided we fall". Let us find our
similarities other than our differences and build on them which I am certain
will be to our benefit.

Best Regards....

Manuel (Eddie) Tavares
