There can be no more revolution brought about by modern goans. We will have to
be content with commemorating the 18th June of 1946. Even the anti-Nylon 66 or
Meta Strips type agitation will not be possible in 2010. Modern goans just do
not have the stamina nor the tolerance form pain and sacrifice. Goa's
ideologues have been domesticated by miners and real estate developers. From
goan writers, poets, freedom fighters to progressive thinkers, they are
beneficiaries of this destructive and exploitative coterie that manipulates the
social and political life in Goa for the last 50 years. If Churchill has
refered to activists as squealing pigs then probably he is right. We never seem
to learn from our mistakes and are back rolling in the same muck every 5 years.
We expect the unexpected, that national political parties will protect goan
interests. It is expecting a real estate developer and miner to be sensitive to
local culture, environment and people's livelihood interests. It is like
expecting a scorpion not to sting you when carassed? So when TB Cunha had
spoken about denationalised goans it was not about a culture but a mindset that
is slavish. We are a bankrupt society that has no ideology of our own but live
on borrowed ideologies. That is why migrants fruit sellers in Goa's markets can
survive by selling poisoned fruits to Goans. It is not possible in any other
State.
