Crime branch on Saturday raided Margao-based notary Joey Rodrigues’ office and
attached a copy of the extract from the notarial register pertaining to the
affidavit sworn before him by absconding former tourism minister Francisco
“Mickky” Pacheco.
The copy reveals that Pacheco appeared before Rodrigues in Margao to notarize
the affidavit and signed on the notary’s book.

Police sources, however, said they would be verifying this and didn’t rule out
the possibility of the affidavit not being notarized before the notary as he is
a close friend of Pacheco.

“We have been trying to track down the former minister from the time a look out
circular was issued against him. If he had gone to a notary in Margao, we would
have tracked him. We suspect that Pacheco may have prepared the affidavit
without visiting the notary’s office,” said a police official.

Crime branch sources said they would soon be summoning the notary for
interrogation. Sources also said that the police want to know the exact time at
which Pacheco appeared before Rodrigues in Margao to notarize the affidavit.

The affidavit sworn before the notary on June 14 has been submitted by Pacheco
to the high court along with his anticipatory bail application, which is due to
be heard on Monday. Pacheco is the prime accused in the culpable homicide of
his “close friend” Nadia Torrado.
