Kerala is touted as God's own country and a tourist paradise. It also has the
highest literacy and quality of life indices in India. What comes with it is
the highest suicide rate and highest liquor consumption rate with  besides men,
local women and children taking to it in a big way. A Kochi police inspector
says that ever since Discos were introduced, brawls are common. Drunk women
cause a lot of  embarrassing problems for them. Even on Good Friday,a dry
day, three 11year old children were hospitalised due consuming excess liquor!
Juvenile crime has increased. All this without casino culture and drug mafias
as in Goa.The unprincipled Congress in action we are witnessing and
experiencing!DGP Bassi says they have a well oiled police machinery.Probably
means well greased.......and spineless as can be seen in investigation of the
drug-police-politicians nexus. Our new Tourism Minister before appointment said
he would end Rave parties and such. After
getting the seat he says he will have to see about that since tourists are our
honoured guests and  must have a great time!

The BJP government in Karnataka is so corrupt, that the Lokayukta Justice
Santosh Hegde could take no more and resigned after a cabinet minister
wanted an honest officer suspended. He could only handle complaints against
class one officers with no powers for suo motto action. Government officials
suspended by him were re-instated. The Upa Lokayuktya (another Ombudsman) did
have suo motto powers for lower class officers, but post lying vacant for 6
months with around 10,000 cases pending!

Goa has to beware of landing in similar predicament as elucidated above. Also
Lokayukyta institution together with Police Reforms long overdue and pending
must be brought up in the coming monsoon session. Is anyone listening?! I do
not see any such move in the BJP action plan for the Assembly(monsoon/post
monsoon)session.
