        1. Press Conference:
A Press Conference, to announce the World Cultural Convention and to seek the 
participation of the Goan troupes and the Goan public, was organized for the 
Goan Press and the Media at the Tiatr Akademi, Panjim on Saturday, June 26 at 4 
p.m.. Shri Tomazinho Cardozo, the president of the Tiatr Akademi (ex-Speaker, 
Goan Assembly) introduced Eric Baab, who briefed the Press with the details.
 
The Press was thrilled to note that 25 to 30 troupes from Goa (folk, tiatr, 
natak and songs) would be invited to the World Cultural Convention. They were 
curious to know whether the Government of Goa would contribute towards the 
expenses. Eric Baab assured that the Chief Minister, being the Chief Patron of 
the World Convention, has assured all support which would certainly mean 
financial too. The Press was full of praises for Mandd Sobhann’s efforts at 
organizing such world-level events to enhance the prestige and pride of Konkani.
 
2.       Friends’ Meet:
 
A dinner meet with friends was organized at the Golden Chariot Hotel, Margao, 
at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 27, 2010, to discuss and decide – 
 
1.       the ‘Curtain Raiser’ in Goa and 
2.       selection of troupes from Goa.
 
Around 18 friends deliberated at length and enthusiastically assured of their 
companionship to make this world-event a success.
 
3.       Curtain Raiser (‘Vovllig’):
 
The Chief Minister was kind enough to agree to be the Chief Guest at the Goa 
Curtain Raiser (‘Vovllig’) – on Sunday July 18, 2010, at Ravindra Bhavan, 
Margao.
 
Shri Francisco Sardinha, M.P. and Chairman, Estimate Committee, Government of 
India; Shri Eduardo Faleiro, Commissioner for NRI Affairs, Govt. of Goa; Shri 
Luizinho Faleiro, Member, CWC, and Shri Damodar G. Naik, MLA, Fatorda will be 
the Guests of Honour.
 
The Curtain Raiser is named ‘Vovllig’ – meaning Invitation. All the 25 troupes 
invited to participate from Goa will receive their official invitation at the 
‘Vovllig’. The cultural programme will contain folk performances by Kharvi Kala 
Mandd, Bhatkal; Mother Teresa Brass Band, Honavar and dances by the Mandd 
Sobhann dance team, Naach Sobhann.
 
The whole of Goa seems to be excited about the First World Konkani Cultural 
Convention.
