Allen Costa (Emissoro de Goa) A video tribute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVtG-I_7C5g As I remember.. All India Radio Panjim (Akashvanni Ponnje) Radio was the only indoor means of entertainment for us. There were no TVs, VCR/DVDs, MP3, Cable/SkyTVs, walkmen etc There was a time whenever there was a 'Lokam Khell' (Folk Play) (usually at 9.10pm till 10pm on Saturdays or Sundays) we shouted calling every one saying.. Agnel, Francis, Camilo..yo re Khell eilo Consu, Jillit, Kerbin yo go, khell eilo.. (we call every one by names to announce the play is about to start or just started) as not all households had Radio with them. Our father being 'Tarvotti' we had one large 4 band National Panasonic Radio that worked on 4 large batteries There was no electricty either at that time (Our village had it around 1975) The popolar programes on Akashvanni Radio then were Kadnam Ovllam 2.10pm (Konkani cantaram) after which AIR transmission takes break ITLEAM AMCHI POILI SOBAH SOMPTA. AMCHI DURSI SOBAH SANJECHEA PANCH ZAUM DHA MINNTAMCHER SURU ZATLI. TO MEREM AMI TUMCHO NIROP GHETANV. JAI HIND! (we then switched to Vivid Bharati, a hindi programe at other frequency) Next transmission starts at 5.30pm usually with Bhakti or sugam sangeet Cholat tor 'Chaudder' around 6pm (farmers) Yuva Vanni around 6.30pm (youth Programe) Kellar ani Mallar with Hari-mam (sundays for kids) Vivida (Hindi-Konkani-Marathi mixed songs on Wednesdays etc) Bhuim Chaffim (again Konkani song in the moning) Aboliamcho Jelo (Konkani song) Manajoktim Gitam (konkani song by requests, weekly about an hour) Manapasante gite (Marathi Songs as above) Your favourites (English songs aa) Ranassaince? (Portuguese songs aa) Moujecho Khell Honibaeli Vasri 'Tumchio Chitti Amchi Zap' with Naguesh bab (Weekly. reply to listeners letters) Regualr News/Bhatmia/Khobro (local, Bombay and National) 8.30am,1pm, 2pm, 7pm, 8pm 9pm etc (about 10 mins duration each) Mumbai ani Ponnje konknnitlean Khobro dita (relayed from Bombay) Suresh Naik tumkam Konknnintlean khobro dita, Mukel Khobro (daily konkani news 7pm) Where ever there was a football match at state level etc, there was a Konkani/english running comentary too Besides, nattkulim, kirtan, bhajan, fugddeo,Bazaracheo dhoro, Havaman etc etc Allen Costa was very popular with Konkani Songs programe presentation. 'Manajoktim gitam' without him was boring. Allen also very popular with his songs mostly played at 2.10pm in Kadnam Ovllam. Popular amongst them were Adeus korche Velar, Eksuro Bosun te Deger (as in above clip) etc etc ALLEN COSTA (A profile): Born in Agassaim, Goa on 4th March 1931 >From 1954 to 1989 – Dedicated 36 years of service as an Announcer at Emissora De Goa (during Portuguese rule), known as All India Radio after Goa’s liberation • Produced more than 400 Khell Tiatrs for broadcast on radio written by famous goan artistes • Assisted in the daily planning of programmes for broadcast, writing features and news in Konkani • Hosted the famous weekly shows on radio, “Moujecho Khell” along with Paul Fernandes and “Antu Babachi Gozal” • Sung many songs being regularly broadcast on All India Radio, of them the very famous composition by Reginaldo Fernandes, ‘Adeus Korchea Vellar’ • Hosted the Konkani request programme ‘Manajogtim Geetam’ twice a week • Prepared and compered the report on Feast of St. Francis Xavier, Old Goa every year
