As our common friend Soter was pointing out recently, quite rightly in
my view, the BJP's key to returning to power is Salcete, really!

The block of eight seats, in the BJP worldview (which narrowly equates
religion with political interest... and their campaigns make it a
self-fulfilling prophecy), is what blocks them from getting a simple
majority on their own.

Urban Salcete (Margao, Fatorda) had a different demography.
Unfortunately, since 1963 in Goa, demography has been entwined with
politics, who can deny that? But with the growth of the Muslim
population there and with Digu not presently being in the BJP camp,
times are achanging. This explains the ire, in part.

Notice the lack of concern about the real estate impact on, say,
Ponda. The silence on mining in Bicholim and Sanguem among some
quarters is stunning. Can't we appeal to religious leaders there too
to take a stand, to start with?
