Is it a compulsion to invite Goan Politicians for any function by Goans around
the world ? I am sure the answer is no, so why invite them, can any one tell me
of one Goan politician in the present Vidhan Sabha who is not corrupt or not
supporting the other corrupt politicians or not supporting the degradation of
Goa, for a share of the spoils and well being ? If there exists even one he
deserves all our adulation.

HI Freddy,

What a coincidence! Your letter is fantastic to the point and very true. It
made fantastic reading. In fact I have the same views and I fully agree that
those wanting to be in the good books of these crooked Ministers only want it
to get personal favours. They are not boot lickers but ass lickers! I
believe it is a shame for the persons involved in organising Goan festivals to
send invitations to Politicians and am also wondering as to who pays for their
expenses.

I too believe that if any guest of honour who is to be invited that person
invited should be a simple model figure maybe a local councillor who has taken
up their causes, a Principal, a Head Master a social worker or even a lay man.
There is a story about a very rich Brahmin/bhatkar who all the villagers
adored him because of his wealth. When his cow died the whole village
attended the funeral but when he died who know what happened? NO ONE CAME.

It is we Goans who ourselves are to be blamed and we cant blame outsiders. Yes
we have more enemies within us than enemies outside. I remember an article by
some eminent Goan, I think it was Remo who during elections asked a Goan
villager who he would be voting and there were 2 candidates - one an honest God
fearing person and the other crooked one. The villager said yes the first one
is very honest but I would be voting the other one. When he asked him why - he
replied I want to extend my house illegally and this can be done only by paying
money to the second candidate. The honest candidate would not oblige me. This
is the sorry state of, we Goans. It is very very rare to get a sincere
patriotic Goan. One such politician who stands out in my memory is our late
Dr. Jack Sequeira the founder of the state of Goa.

On Goanet I read about the villagers in Cansaulim are presently fighting
against a mega project backed by the Panchayat and the notorious builder. The
panchayat being a Goan logically should be on their side but the reality is
different. We can only wish the villagers of Cansaulim all success in their
just cause. It is not easy to have unity and the power of money and threats
make people vulnerable.

Thanks and Best wishes

Camilo
