I have audited the expenses of several companies here in Canada and I have yet to see even the most senior official spending $2,000.00 per day while on official business. --- COMMENT --- My dear Mervyn, I wonder if the right questions were asked under the RTI Act. For instance: a: What is the breakdown for the total amount reportedly spent (Rs 8,89,514 or US$ 19,037)? b: Did it include the Airfare India - Canada (RTN) if he was unable to travel to Brasil because of the AirCanada snafu OR India-Canada-Brasil-India, if he did travel? c: Did the snafu cause him to get legal advice? Was that free? d: Did he proceed to Brasil? d: Were there days he had to (over)stay in Toronto? Did he stay in the departure lounge? Do you believe that the above questions are relevant to any "audit" one may wish to conduct before going after someone. IMHO, an upright and smart person like you should have verified the above before comparing Faleiro's $2000 a day to senior officials of companies you have audited. Did those officials also travel Goa-Bombay-Toronto and back? Would you happen to know the cost of a return Business Class ticket Goa-Toronto-Goa (say on Jet Airways)? I also thought that (unlike Aires) you, Mervyn should have disclosed IF you did or did not have a 'contra tu' with Mr. Faleiro. We all know by now that Aires did have a public issue at the 2007 convention. BTW: As far as I am concerned, NOT one single paisa is worth spending on politicians. And yes, WHY exactly did the Toronto-Goan-whatever invite Faleiro to Toronto? Did they receive a cheque for the "convention" from him (on behalf of the Goan taxpayers)? How much was the cheque worth? Was it because Canadian and other overseas Goans do not have funds? jc
