Well, We did hear a lot about the Caju plantations along Campal -miramar coastline. Some years ago, a rickshawwala around 55, pointing towards Goa Mariott, Caculos etc told us when they were young they used to come here for 'cazu ani bibe' Looks like now the Caju plantations completely wiped out. Now where exactly did you say the 'distillery' was? Never heard but we can find out if you give us more info didn't we find out, for you, the chapel which is now under military control? http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk26/4682252815/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk25/4622598458/ thanks quote: [Goanet] Campal distillery Bernado Colaco ole_xac at yahoo.co.uk Fri Jul 16 22:10:14 PDT 2010 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- More than 4 decades ago the Campal to Caranzalem coastline was dotted with caju plantations. When Bandodcar took over the Campal area he built a Cricket and Football playgrounds and a house called the Panjim Gymkhana. Many of these plantations were cleared but amongst them stood a distillery where it is believed that after a hard days grind on the pitch near by, the players would go for a tipple.
Could Mr. Joe UK kindly affirm if the distillery still exists? This distillery was large and had a roof above, and unlike the crap and dirty load of traditional stuff from north Goa often shown on Goa Contacto.
