Ms. Jyoti Shetgaonkar is absolutely right and we commend her for her bold
statement.
The Chairperson of the 'Useless Mapuca Municipal Council', Mrs. Bakta,
should have done these things when the Shiv Sena Goons marched to the
Municipality in a show of goondagiri.
1. Not given in to their stupid demand for the Marathi sign-board since this
is not Maharashtra but Goa and since Goa's Official language is Konkani and
not Marathi. though the Language Act is made out to say that 'Marathi may
also be use for Official purposes'. This sign-board matter is Official
business??
2. Not given in without the resolution passed by the Council.
3. Not given in without consulting higher authorities.
However, we have seen Mrs. Bakta readily submitting to the vociferous
demands of the Shiv Sena when she is supposed to have told them that "I
shall put it to the Council, etc"
Shiv Sena has no business to enforce Marathi sign-boards in Goa. If at all
the local language sign-boards are to be implemented, it will be in Konkani.
And there has been no demand for this as Goa is a cosmopolitan State and not
some hinterland of Maharashtra.
The Mapusa citizens have accepted this goon demand from the Shiv Sena with
their tail between their legs as we have not seen any protests forthcoming
from this exercise. Thus encouraged, the demands of Shiv Sena are going to
increase until there is a law and order situation in this rather peaceful
state except for Anti -Mega Projects and Anti-Mining.
As Ms Jyoti says, the road congestion in Mapusa has become chronic where
neither the traffic police nor the Municipality has its eyes open. Consider
the Gomes-Catao Road vehicles parked on both sides of the road, makes this
road impossible for vehicular use at almost all times. Similar problem
exists with the Mapusa Clinic Road.
Will the Mapxemkars wake up so that Ms. Jyoti Shetgaonkar can take a break
?? It looks like Ms. Shetgaonkar is a bonafide Mapsekar and not a Morjikar
when she has, time and again portrayed the problems faced by Mapusa more
than the asli Mapsekars, especially considering the maha noise makers are
ensconced in the BJP.

Gutless Sena

The Shiv Sean marching to the Mapuca Municipality was a waste of time. Who
is interested in having a name plate in Marathi? Whether language of the
name plate, everyone knows that it is the useless Mapusa Municipality.
I would be pleased if the Shiv Sainiks had fought to demolish illegal
constructions, or road congestion. They should ensure that government
employees do not have private businesses.
On 12 July, people from all over Bardez gathered at the Mamlatdar's Office
to get their election cards rectified or make new ones, but the mamlatdar
did not attend duty, even though the Election Commission had advertised in
newspapers. The Shiv Sainiks should have marched there and made noise. But
do they have the guts??
