It is a pity to see the current state of affairs at Goan Welfare Society-
Kuwait. The Society which was in the forefront by organizing some of the main
events like Goa Day, Christmas Tree, May Queen Ball, etc. is now on the verge
of disintegration.

And this is mainly because of the stubborn attitude and ego problem of some of
the current and ex-members of the Managing Committee. Each one’s ego is bigger
than the others. These members who are responsible to bring in others in the
Managing Committee are now at each other’s throat.

On one side, we have the members running the affairs of the Society (are they
really running?), who use every opportunity/forum/space to expose/malign the
ex-members (misappropriation of funds, non-delivery of documents, seeking
commissions, etc). On the other side, we have the ex-members who are in
possession of either some papers/documents proving their innocence or claiming
that in fact, it is the opponents who are at fault (are these papers
relevant?). And as a result, the Society has almost ceased to function and the
ordinary members are confused as who is speaking the truth.

At the last AGM, the Society which boasts of having around 400 memberships, was
attended by merely around 20 members (approximately 5%). And these 5% members
are out to decide the fate/future of the Society. The poor attendance at the
meeting where even some of the managing committee members abstained, reflects
the state of affairs at GWS. Members are disgusted with the in-fighting by
these people, who appear to consider themselves as custodians of the Society.
As a result, the GWS has almost ceased to function.

Enough damage has been done. It is high time we give a healing touch and think
of the revival of the Society for the welfare of Goan community. In this
regard, it is my request to the Managing Committee to call an OPEN FORUM
MEETING for all Goans in Kuwiat. Let every peace loving Goan who is interested
in well being of fellow Goans attend the meeting and express themselves. Let
the differences be sorted out.

If the managing committee fails to call the meeting, I request ex-managing
committee members to come forward along with all other members and call such
meeting in the interest of Goan community in Kuwait.

Best Wishes.
