In reply to Roland's post below, I need to point out that all the police and
Roland have are allegations against Sonia, without any proof. Although
Micky's aide Lyndon disappeared for a period of time, he was granted bail
on the same charges as Sonia - tampering or destruction of evidence. Why is
Sonia not entitled to the same consideration? She has never run off and been
incommunicado with the police. She has always been responsive to police
summons for questioning. She has been put through hours adn hours of
continous and gruelling police interrogation by the Crime Branch. In my
opinion, sonia or any of us ordinary citizens should not be made to pay for
the inefficiency and ineptitude of the police force or their total
subordination to their political masters. If there is proof to nail Sonia of
any offence, then the law has to take its course and none of us can raise
our voice against the rule of law. But the track record of the police in the
past and their conviction rate does not inspire confidence in their
abilities or their sincerity and impartiality. The helpesslessness of the
ordinary citizen who gets caught in the hands of the police to obtain
justice is absolutely frightening. And what is worse is the new draconian
Police Act that the Home Minister is seeking to enact into a bill in the
ongoing Legislative Assembly session, without any study or public debate
