Drugs case vs Nadia

The Goa Assembly has been witnessing noisy scenes. Manohar Parrikar does his
homework well. He deserves to be in the Opposition (no pun intended), as he
brings public awareness of the shortcomings of the government. However, he
falls short in suggesting remedies.
It was clear after Tuesday’s proceedings in the House that the Congress-led
government is under stress. The Manohar Parrikar-led opposition is demanding
that the drug case be handed over to the CBI, and rightly so. Some ruling
legislators are walking the tightrope of conflict of interest and have joined
the opposition cacophony. Whether this is out of concern or just to grind an
axe with the Home Minister is another matter.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat should know that people are watching and expect
the case to be pursued just as keenly as Nadia Torrado’s. What is sauce for the
goose is sauce for the gander; in both the cases high profile ministers are
involved. Or, this disgraceful case will become a political liability and a
deep embarrassment for the Congress.
