AIR:  Margao

No, it not All India Radio Margao but
As I Remember Margao some 30-40 years ago

1.
I always wanted to go to this school.
But my mother said ‘we can’t afford it’
(Despite my father being ‘Tarvotti’, I wasn’t the only child though)
My Cousin (Second) from Bombay was studying here
(boarder). Later on we discovered his
unacceptable behaviours  and  misconducts  in the school.
And that gave my mother some relief as I  never wanted
to join the school again.
Guess what? Eventually I did manage to sit in the
school benches for at least 8 days.
Why only 8 Days?  You got rusticated from school o what?
- Na re baba, actually, that school was my examination
centre where I answered my ‘Matric’ exams.

for dogs. Must be at least 30 years old now

Very close to it is the 'woodland Hotel' one of the oldest

3.
Police Station, Margao
I remember dirty and shabby looking old police station here
Now we have new one, a big one and Clean one (at least
from outside)
It says ‘No Parking’ in front (main road)
Look at shameless JoeGoaUk’s Car parked where it
should not be.

Perhaps he got lots of ‘godfathers’ inside
His new Personlised Number Plate changed from GA 08 E0767

4.
In this hospital, I remember visiting at least two of my
ex-girlfriends during their first delivery times.
Paying hospital visit was a ‘stil’ (Style or norm) at that time.

5.
And this was ‘Ladies Only’ school (Still is)
One of my girlfriends  who was convent educated here suddenly (and to
our surprise) went to become a Nun.
30-40 years on, I still find it difficult to digest.

The 4 storey building you see here
Some 30 years ago, I clearly remember there was
a green colour house here where my favourite friend
used to live.
When approaching Margao, every time I used look
through my bus window..
People grow and marry and settle abroad.
And that’s what I think happened.. Leaving behind just
the memories..
Not seen my friend for  long time now. If we do meet again,
I am sure we  would greet each other ‘Sorry, who are you?’
(as there is no way I would recognize the person so
easily after so many years)
