-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 This refers to the hurting of religious sentiments of various sections wrt the cartoon which appeared in the TOI. Cartoonist Laxman's "aam admi" should have instead appeared as distributing "aams" (mangoes) ! The Christians are hurt, while others rejoice. And it is vice-versa if their "god" was mocked.
At the same time one wonders how many sentiments one has in this country a place admired for it's diversity, rich cultural heritage which appears now beig destroyed not by woodpeckers or kingfishers rather by the termites from within. We will end up in a chaotic situation to pleas all "sentiments" while one does not know the same. Dr. Pereira never meant to hurt anyone wilfully in his paintings... With all said and done and various opinions and protests expressed, it also needs be understood what Jesus who presided in the "Last supper" considers these "lost (hungry) suppers" in which our dear countrymen women and children cannot afford "dal and rice" and we boast of our economy, cultural heritage, religious pride and kill, self-appoint (sensors). Jesus looked with compassion at the multitudes simply because they did not have a Good Shepherd who would care for them. We are all humans after all and He was a God-man trying to tell humanity that God is alive, and has a parental Father heart. The "termites" appear to be sincere (in their beliefs) but sincerely destructive, lost and in instead of calling them all sorts of names have to be looked in compassion rather than condemnation. The bottom line is clear, the end result may end up in the termites and the woodpeckers fighting for a cause which does not exist, lifting an unknown god/goddess or the god of economy or technology, boasting about the God given brains, conciences and hearts to exchange for something which is of less importance. The Last supper was a very significant thing which the Lord of lords [Jesus the Christ] did. He promised He would return, and return He will. What is THE problem? Paul who once was a murderer turned to this Christ whom he [paul] was also one of those sincere Judaist. He wrote: to the Romans which were of those days a very organized civilization: ""The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wicedness. Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew [or "knew" man-made gods] they neither glorified Him as GOd nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinkin g became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened" (Read the chapter of Romans) Petronela de Souza-Roy. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Charset: UTF8 Version: Hush 3.0 Note: This signature can be verified at https://www.hushtools.com/verify wpwEAQMCAAYFAkxWOM0ACgkQLenV2LX4ZNknZAP7Brye8gW1tbDZ0YJjLvVx8rh7S9+D 0EPaXNm7aIkuGuAHOsBI6CU02rN9mlbgo45tximF9Ewg7K/X8k/f4h9V5hEnCwABUinV p+n7q7hvEeGZO9+3n1jDwpwAA1dv3Lo5vX4QlUb+URjidj74KN+bMiU0ceRZxPdhbABd eG7xR88= =dhKN -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- * * * In every way, the Goans of Bombay were part of the great melee that was this metropolis, distinct perhaps in the way communities often are, holding on to their own traditions but merging slowly nonetheless and forming the thin thread of nationhood that would eventually become India. -- Selma Carvalho, in *Into the Goan Diaspora Wilderness*.
