BICHOLIM, AUG 9 Bicholim MLA Rajesh Patnekar has expressed great displeasure over the work at the Tillari Irrigation project and with the PWD for failing to maintain and repair roads in the taluka. According to reports, several roads in the taluka have been dug for the Tillari Irrigation project for constructing trenches. The project which comes from Tillari is going through the Bicholim taluka and before the monsoon, the trenches were dug. Several roads including that of Van-Maulinguem, Vawthi-Vathadev and even the main road at Zantye College have been dug and the traffic diverted. Even though the work was completed before the monsoon, the roads were unrepaired. “Due to heavy rains, the entire road becomes muddy and there is always a fear of an accident,” informed Van-Maulinguem Panch Rajendra Usapkar. “Recently, two accidents occurred on this road and an elderly woman fractured her hand when the scooter which she was riding skidded on the mud. If these roads are not repaired, it might lead to more serious accidents,” he said. When contacted, Bicholim MLA Patnekar expressed displeasure over the incident and claimed that it is total negligence on the part of PWD and Tillari Irrigation project. “I contacted the assistant engineer of the Tillari project and he claimed that the work is that of the PWD. They have already paid for the road repairs, but the PWD is yet to work on it,” said Patnekar. “The roads have become dangerous and if no action is taken, they would surely be a cause of an accident and the PWD will be blamed for it,” warned Patnekar, asking PWD to immediately carry out repair works.
