Independence Day at St. Xavier’s

To mark the 64th year of India’s Independence, St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, organized Independence Day Celebration with the unfolding of the tricolour and inspecting the Guard of Honour, followed by a Cultural Programme based on the theme: “Ekvottam Poriavoronn Samballum-ai”. Other items consisted of patriotic group songs by NSS/NCC students, Taakat Vatham ki Hamse Hai, a poem “Indian Oneness” composed and recited by Alisha Nazareth.

Prof. Aliya Agha and a student, Ms. Sweta Mahale, spoke on the occasion. A wall paper designed by Women’s Cell as also inaugurated.

The Principal, Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sá, in his speech highlighted the role of some prominent Goans who took part in the Quit India Movement and set an example for us to be patriotic and nationalistic.

He also focused on the importance of education in moulding the character and, thus, empowering to become responsive citizens.

The programme ended with March Past by the Girls and Boys NCC units, and a vote of thanks by the General Secretary, Mr. Salil Rao (TYBBA).
