Title contenders AVC Kuwait narrowly beat a strong Surra Boys 1-0 in the
St. Francis Xavier Unity Soccer Cup (SFX Unity Cup) at the Digital
Ground (Kuwait City) on Thursday, 19th August 2010, in the first match
of the day, played at 5:15pm. The all important goal was scored by
Jimmon from 20 yards past the diving Surra Boys keeper.
AVC Kuwait possessing players of the caliber of Luciano, Braulio,
Melwin, Kavin and Ronnie were made to work hard for victory by Surra
Boys made up of a selection of reputed players including Duarte who
controlled the midfield, Liston in the defense and Savio, Anil and
Larry. AVC now takes on United Friends Club in the quarter finals in a
mouth watering clash on Friday at 5:00pm.
In the second match of the day, Duler Boys edged out Rawda Challengers
4-1 in the tie breaker. Although Duler Boys controlled most of the game
with Ian as a pillar in the defense and Terence controlling the
midfield, they were unable to find the net due to erratic shooting by
their forwards. Ian, Cookie, Reji and Terry found the net for Duler
Boys, while the Duler keeper Benny was in fine form saving two
penalties. Shakir was the only scorer for Rawda Boys. Matches were
officiated by Indian Football Referees Association (IFRA) officials -
Sharma, Christoper, Alex, Amaldo and Diego.
In the matches played on Friday, star studded Livrament Boys scraped
through 1-0 past a young Don Bosco Oratory, with Jimmy finding the net
in the second half. Livrament Boys fielding the elite of Indian Soccer
including Jimmy, Vico, Vitorino, Kennedy, Cristo, Bernard among others,
inspite of their reputation found it extremely hard going against a
young and skilful Don Bosco Oratory and Roshan, Sai, Alex and Louis
ensured that Don Bosco were in the hunt as well. Matches were officiated
by (IFRA) officials - Steven, Tiego and Jose.
In the second match, CRC Chinchinim won 3-1 in the tie breaker against
