I was expecting this post from Soter and therefore I did not take the trouble to type the GT Letter to Editor from Leonard Lobo, which I have appreciated very much. Having said that, Leonard is on track with the title 'Stop Glorification'. Nisser Dias' extra-ordinary glorification of Dr. Oscar Rebello borders on stupidity if nothing else. Nisser must understand that 'one swallow, the summer does not make'.

It was I who asked/requested Dr. Oscar to consider contesting from Panjim in 2007. And this was much before the GBA was put together. But the saddest part of all the GBA joke was that it professed "Apolitical' stance" aka ' Go all out to help the Congress because it, the world, the Church, did not want BJP to romp home'. But this 'apolitical stance' went a little too absurd far. It remained absolutely mum on who should be projected'. And as Leonard rightly says, these jokers (all, not only the gullible GBA) got the same (major) flies who circle around the 'pile' re-elected. However it is note-worthy that the wings of the fattest fly from Saligao were cut, as also the yesterday's birthday-bash boy.

Goa does not need a charismatic figure who has the ability to 'lick' the microphone. We had a living, as well as the dead charismatic figure in Bahusaheb Bandokar who, with his screwed-up vision for GOA has impeded its progress and sanity enough. And we are still garlanding the traitor. So much for being GOANS. GOA, on the contrary, needs a charismatic, disciplined, ethically and morally sound and most importantly, a self-sacrificing and written-down SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE which will not be susceptible to amendments at every mile of the walk.

Until GOA and GOANS deem it fit to have this SYSTEM OF GOVERNANCE instead of glorifying one singular person, Goa will not see the change that it is waiting and looking for.

My utmost salute to the Vascokar Leonard Lobo for his frank and valid observations. After all, it takes Vascokar and Moidekar "Lobos' to think sensibly.
:-)
Cheers

Stop glorification

ALL of a sudden there is a break out of "a craze" to glorify GBA and it's self styled leaders, through the media and for Goa's sake, please stop this fad. GBA and its leaders have only dry sucked the people by holding two public rallies at Panaji and Margao with much funfare. What followed? In the general elections in the year 2007, the same GBA and all-most all its leaders actively canvassed for the same corrupt rulers. What followed this? Wanton destruction and plunder of Goa's environment, which in fact doubled up, What will follow? In the coming elections, the same GBA will run behind the same corrupt leaders ruling Goa today. And then, land conversions of steep slopes and low lying fields and change of zones based on "proposed" roads will go on with impunity. Then, why hosannas to members of Task Force, supposedly true lovers of Goa and GBA and its leaders. Let us stop glorifying these publicity seeking people. It's not about crab mentality but about bitter truth of vows unkept.

Leonard E Lobo, Vasco
