Politics was meant to be a mission but it has sadly become worse than the oldest profession. The manner in which our MPs have wrangled their own astronomical pay hike says it all. The deadlock in Parliament over their demand for a salary of Rs 80,001 a month may never have ended if only the MPs had known that the Goa Government is paying its Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak Rs five lakhs a month in addition to other perks. May be it is also time to deliberate whether we need 545 MPs in the Lok Sabha in addition to the 245 in the Rajya Sabha. Slashing their numbers may come as a relief to the exchequer.
