Dear all, I am pleased to inform you that «FERNÃO MENDES PINTO - THE FASCINATED GAZE», an exhibition to mark the 500th birth anniversary of the writer, will be inaugurated at the Xavier Centre of Historical Research, Alto Porvorim, on 9th September at 5.30 p.m., at the hands of his Excellency Dr. Paulo Neves Pocinho, Consul General of Portugal in Goa.
The 24 panels exhibited are based on the book Peregrinação by Fernão Mendes Pinto, the great Portuguese adventurer and explorer of the 16th century, was conceptualized by Prof.ª Dra Ana Paula Laborinho, Professor at the Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon and the present President of Instituto Camões, Portugal. The illustrations are by João Fazenda. Dr. Delfim Correia da Silva, Director C.L.P. / Instituto Camões, Goa will present the panels on exhibition. On 16th September at 5.30 p.m. Arch. Eduardo Kol de Carvalho, Director of Fundação Oriente in India, will deliver a talk entitled «St. Francis Xavier and Fernão Mendes Pinto, Pioneers of Globalization and Ecumenism in Japan». On 17th September at 6.00 pm there will be a screening of «Os Olhos da Ásia», a film directed by João Mario Grilo, followed by and open discussion.
