Pregnant? Who gets pregnant these days?
There was a time, not long back, in our childhood when pregnant women
were very visible in public places.
Today, Goa's low birth rate (as that of the West and other
getting-to-be-affluent societies ... in South India too, but not North
India) is reflected in the limited number of pregnant women one can
see on the roads, in the marketplaces, in public places.
This is just an observation, and not meant to "blame" women alone (or
anyone for that matter) for the falling birth rates. As they would
sometimes say, 'economic development' is the best contraceptive.
At least it has its own logic. FN
