Many of you have already received a note announcing the death of our dear colleague Dr. Cornell DaCosta just a few days ago. Those of you who have only been with the society for a few years would have at least heard the name and have come to know his significant role as one of the original co-founders of this group in 1980. You no doubt have heard that he is one of our most prolific scholars and educational leaders, and as a result helped envision and shape ISfTE into the structure we largely enjoy today. Cornell was a believer in collaboration, accountability and leadership. These attributes will go down as the least of the depth and breadth of talent he displayed as a gifted steward of teaching and learning. More than anything, he was a passionate articulator for lifting up the under-served, for the invisible, for people that find themselves on the margins and as a consequence their access and development compromised. He felt that this society could be a good place for their voices to be heard, and I would submit that he has left us with a charge to do better; even in his death, he compels the teachable moment. Our thoughts are directed to his family in hope that they are lifted in this hour of sorrow. I have spoken to his wife, Nancy, and she asked me to convey her gratefulness to the society for your supportive comments. Forrest Crawford ISfTE Secretary General 16 September, 2010
