Dear Fr. Ivo,
In my opinion it is not mockery of God, but of those who believe without
just inquiry
& ignore post-modern science's claims.
**It is mockery of God, because we believe in God and have been discussing
this point. The joke given by George Pinto has another dimension: whether
God exists or not, the price of egg sandwiches does not change, but if one
is Goan, it changes, because the prices are fixed differently for Goans and
for the tourists.
There is no connection with "god sandwiches" (patollyo made of "god",
jaggery). This is in bad taste, more so if they have been eaten for chovoth,
festival of god Ganesha...
Mr. Helekar's postings amply suggest, I think, that according to modern
science,
to which he seems to adhere solemnly, there is/may not be a God after all.
In other words
he sees no God.
**Wrong. You cannot see God, we believe in God. Science does not disprove
the existence of God.
As a scientist, he is agnostic (as you say "there is/may not be a God")...
He cannot mock at God in whom we believe...by bringing in "god(dachyo)
patollyo".
"Santosh has gone to a lower step than Stephen Fry who spoke with
elegance!" seems rather accusive and that is not because Fry is a
'comedian' but
because in most of his postings Mr. Helekar has shown a remarkable
integrity and
intellectual honesty. He is humorous, too, but not a 'comedian'...
**Integrity and intellectual honesty should be proved, so far I did not see
it. There is no good taste and civility in mocking at the faith of
believers...
<<Surely, you know the word 'inspired'? I suspect that it has something to
do with spirit, about which I
claim to know comparatively nothing, and yet common sense tells me that it
must often be a trait of
clearheaded individuals.
**As much as I know, the Spirit of God inspires love and compassion, not
insulting and hurting others... There is a limit for the sense of humour
too!
Regards.
