Subodh Kerkar will have a major presence at Ruhr Biennale. Twenty two
of his works including thirteen sculptures and nine installation
photographs have been air-lifted for the show. One of his large
sculptures, created using an old Goan canoe will also be showcased at
the Biennale.
Most of Subodh’s works are based on his favourite theme, ‘Water’.
“In Sanskrit water is called ‘JEEVAN’, ‘LIFE”, says Subodh.
He goes on to add, “Water is the essence of civilization. The world
owes its existence to water. Civilizations are born on the banks of
rivers. Civilizations sprout, are cherished and evolve alongside water.
Water is the carrier of cultural revolutions and often is responsible
for their destruction. Water, especially potable water is expected to
be scarce in the years to come if we do not conserve it, respect it and
use it with discretion. Future wars, it is predicted might be fought
over water”.
Subodh Kerkar has tried to address water as a global issue through his
installations.
The Biennale will be inaugurated on the 3rd October 2010 and will be on
until the 30th November 2010.
