While this does sound terribly feudal in this day and age (and could
question the romanticisation of things like the gaunkari system), a
question to all:

How, if at all, relevant was the Bara Balutedar system to a place like
Goa in the past?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bara_Balutedar

Some of the service occupations are the same as we have here, though
possibly with different spellings. (For instance, my home, till date,
is in a place called Sonar-bhat).

1) Chougula 2) Mahar (Watchman ) 3) Sutar ( Carpenter ) 4) Lohar (
Blacksmith ) 5) Kumbhar ( Potter ) 6) Chambhar ( Shoe maker ) 7) Nhawi
( Barber ) 8) Sonar ( Goldsmith ) 9) Joshi ( village astrologer )
10)Parit (Washerman) 11)Gurav (Idol-Dresser) 12)Koli ( Water Carrier )

And, would someone like Venantius tell us what the translation of
Chougula be? Milkman? FN
