If The Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association want to truly get rid of the Portuguese legacy, please ask them to give up cooking using: Tomatoes Chillies Potatoes Pineapples Cashew and all the varieties of mangoes and bananas we have in Goa. These and more (see an article by Dr. Nandkumar Kamat some years ago) are due to the legacy the Portuguese have left behind.
Also, get rid of the architectural beauties, like the pergolas in the Panjim garden, the Campal garden (Francisco Luis Gomes) and Dona Paula. And while they're about it, let them get rid of the Francisco Luis Gomes statue and the garden as he was a Portuguese too (as were all Goans at the time) and one of the earliest parliamentarians to represent Goa in the Portuguese Cortes. Oh, what about the pedestals on which the Jawan/Kisan are standing on at Miramar (it represents the journey of Afonso de Albuquerque, the statue of whom was taken down), the pedestal in Old Goa which relates odes of Luis de Camoes (the man's statue was taken down), should these not be broken up? That brings me to the edifice built to commemorate Infante D. Henrique, in front of the military hospital - should this be left standing? Also, what about the connection between Old Goa and Panjim - that is the oldest standing and probably the longest causeway in India, built by the Portuguese? Why only rename? Why not go on a rampage a la Fontainhas and break every edifice the Portuguese built and rebuild Goa in the Indian style and make it look more like what they are used to in the form of shanty towns of Delhi and Mumbai? By the way, how about these so-called Freedom Fighters getting back Dabolim from the Indian Navy, thus doing something constructive? Stupid, ignorant, hypocrites! ----- Original Message ---- > From: JoeGoaUk <[email protected]> > To: [email protected] > Sent: Fri, 22 October, 2010 2:48:12 PM > Subject: [Goanet] Rename 'Garcia de Orta' say Goa's FFs > > Rename 'Garcia Da Orta' say FFs > http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk31/5098527697/sizes/l/ >
