Fr Ivo wrote: Pedophilia is a crime. We cannot say that the Catholic Church is "producing" abusive priests. There has been a lot of false propaganda, money greed (accusing after 40 years), blown off out of proportion, anytihing being considered to be "pedophilia"( a hug, a slap, a touch). If there are sick people in all walks of life, they should be properly treated and rehabilitated. It is criminal and means should be taken to tackle this evil. Pedophilia exists not only among some (very few) Catholic priests, but also among Hindu 'bhotts', parents and employers ( to some extent). It is a disease, it is an evil.
Response: Dear Fr Ivo, I am glad you accept that paedophilia is a crime. As far as I am aware, no one has accused Catholic church of producing paedophile priests. What people have said is the systematic way the church has tried to thwart the efforts of police authorities to bring these criminals to book. No one is denying that there are paedophiles in all religions. However, other religions do not have as their head a person who is also head of a state and who is also the head of one of the richest institutions in the world. This head who used to be Cardinal Ratzinger has been shown to be advising the priests, bishops and cardinals not to pass on information about paedophile priests to the authorities for the 'greater good of the church'. No Shankaracharya ( spiritual head of Hindus) or any other spiritual head has ever tried to protect paedophiles in this way. There are convicted paedophiles here in the UK who are allowed to remain clergy for years after spending time in jail for their crimes despite Nolan recommendations accepted by Catholic church here in the UK.. This is why it is a problem for the church. Today, a catholic priest who used to be a priest in West Midlands in the UK between 1959 and 1982 was jailed for 21 years for abusing boys between 1959 and 1982. He left UK in 1982 when the first complaint was made and despite host of complaints worked as priest in America until 2001. The judge in this case called the role of the church in delaying his arrest 'questionable'. According to you, the men who complained after twenty odd years against this man were greedy - weren't they? It was their fault, was it not? Look into a mirror father. You really need some guidance. Their are plenty of good priests in Goa. Go and seek guidance from one of them. You really are a dangerous ignoramus. Anil Desai
