It is a fact that Freedom Fighters are no longer fighting for the causes of Goa other than demanding to change anything and everything of Portuguese legacy in Goa. They are no longer interested in any issues that are destroying Goa. It seems they (excluding the freed criminals and thieves who were in Aguada Jail during the take over of Goa by Indian army) have supported (I do not want to say they have fought) the freedom of Goa only to merge Goa into Maharashtra and not having succeeded in that treason now they seems to be secretly supporting the take over of Goa by Non-Goans. If i am wrong then the real Goans would see them in the streets fighting against the Government's and Politicians' whole-sale of Goa to Non Goans. If they really loved Goa, they should have been in the forefront fighting all the causes of Goa and Goans just as GBA and many other NGOs are fighting to save Goa for the Goans. Their more interest is to get their pension in the name of freedom fighters whether they deserve it or not. Latest is they are demanding the reservation in Government Jobs not only for their Sons and daughters but also to their grand and great-grand children. This is not the end, they will still come up with some more ideas and plans to get themselves and their generations going-on at the cost of Goan People.
Recently these so called freedom fighters under the leadership of Karmali came up with another idea that is to deport the Goan Christians to Portugal as these Christian Goans are opposing their hate campaign, hence a set back to their whole-sale plans. This letter is not to support the former Portuguese rule or to belittle any true sacrifices by genuine freedom fighters. My point is that if at all Goa?s freedom fighters want to act/speak in Goa?s interests, they must address the current issues of today that are destroying Goa and its identity, i.e. land sales to non-Goans which is gradually putting Goa into the hands of non-Goans, uncontrolled migrant influx and vote bank politics, which can result in Goans having no political say, in the affairs of Goa, mega-projects that are not only creating un-necessary employment for migrants but also bring in majority non-Goan residents to the detriment of Goa?s environment and demography, large-scale corruption which is gradually destroying Goa, governments faulty employment/industrial policies favouring non-Goans and facilitating Goans to leave Goa in hordes, due to lack of opportunities at home, and exploitation of Goa by the privileged few; including politicians, mining/builders lobbies etc to realise huge illegitimate profits at the cost of destroying Goa and its identity. Our unique state of Goa should have got safeguards in 1961 to protect its identity i.e. when Goa joined the Indian Union, via military action. With all due respect, Goa?s freedom fighters could have helped Goa get these safeguards, as then not only did they know of the special constitutional exceptions, for some other states e.g. Kashmir?s, but also had many other key factors in Goa?s favour. I understand that we can?t change the past, but surely the freedom fighters still have the power to influence Goa?s future which is threatened by today?s issues, rather than dwell on past glories.
