Thanks to the Goanetter who privately replied to my query with the
information I needed here:

The first very fashionable cotton mill saris which were the rage some
decades ago....Khatau Mills, hence Khatau sari as now one talks of
maheshwari from Maheshwar, kanchipuram/kanjeevaram, mangalgiri -
andhra ; banarasi, of course the best known of all in some circles !
And now we can talk of the kunbi sari, a brand name like no other ! ...

A friend working on translations was trying to find the right meaning
