>From Feb to August this year the Goa Government has paid Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak Rs. 31, 81,000. This has been revealed by the Law department under the Right to Information Act. With this the total amount spent by the Goa Government on Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak since his appointment in Feb 2005 has amounted to over rupees five crores.
Though Goa is the smallest state it has India’s highest paid Advocate General. Advocate General’s of Maharastra, Gujarat and Karnataka are never paid more than Rs 50, 000/- a month. Advocate Generals of Maharastra, Karnataka and Gujarat appear in the High Court only in constitutional and important matters, but Mr. Subodh Kantak appears in all sorts of matters just because he gets Rs 8000/- every time he stands up in the High Court. It is an irony that Goa’s Advocate General Mr. Subodh Kantak is being paid more than any Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and even the President of India.
