50 years on after the invasion, Goa is faced with endless problems. One of them is the issue of language used in Goa. Although Concani is widely spoken, the maratista forces have done their best to block the formal usage of this language specially in the Romi script. Recently these same forces tried to stop the reception of NRPSagres a Portuguese navy training vessel. These same forces after 61 have tried to dictate that Goan catholics as second class by throwing them out of jobs and importing their cadres from maratwada. In 1967 they failed to win in the duff opinion poll.
Having said that the Goan response has been almost nil. There is zero unity among Goans. Instead Goans bow down to the necolonial rulers whose actions 50 years ago has left Goa in an abyss. Lofty speeches are given greeting these chaps with words such as Your excellency etc. Global conventions are held with no results and effects. In Goa they create goon organizations like the Protectors. This has thrown Goa into a further morass. The so called leaders such as Oscar Rebello thrash the Portuguese instead of striking at the real situation of Goa. Grand discussions are held across all forums regarding Portuguese rule. There are chaps writing books about Goan patriotism. When these poor souls only wanted a name and job. Meanwhile thousands including the freedom figthers file for to regain Portuguese citizenship. Now I have heard a zumzum that even the patriotism of our grand admin is flaking and he may apply to be a citizen of the Euro. Meanwhile Concani is almost sinking! BC
