Response:
Floriano has raised an extremely relevant point. The problem in Goa is not
the politicians, it is the so claimed goan intelligensia that lives in their
glass refrigerators and generate solutions which are far from the reality.
We cannot expect realistic diagnosis from this section that themselves live
in a manipulated environment with ACs and all the technological conveniences
thus consuming the resources of remaining 80% of humanity. They themselves
are patronisers of the very markets that perpetrate injustices on society.
The problem is that education gives us an understanding of conventional
politics, non-conventional political strategies are best learnt thru'
experience in the field.
The East India Company may be no more, but Goa has become the sorry victim
of their legacy that gets carried on carried on thru' PhDs, MSWs, MCAs and
MBAs. Social problems means projects. Projects means donor agencies. If
project goals are in conflict with other social issues and further compound
social problems, it is immaterial. It gives scope for more projects.
Acheivements of a complex issue like social change gets measured on a simple
ruler. At the end of the day principles and ethics have no place in
achievement of targets listed out in the project agreement. A fog is
generated to keep the goan masses ignorant.
Mahatma Gandhi when once asked as to how the British are able to retain
power in India had replied: "The causes that gave them India enables them to
retain it.......We like their commerce, they please us by their subtle
methods and get what they want from us. To blame them for this is to
perpetuate their power."
So unless our intelligensia are selfless and sincere in diagnosing the real
source of Goa's social and political conditions, goans are far from the
remedy to their problems.
Politicians speak what the voters want to hear. Our contemporary social
change agents write what the donor agencies like to read. The masses are
asses meant for lab research and to be hearded to Azad maidan in pick-ups.
Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?
