Greetings, JC-bab. The word "bought out" is exactly right. Goan journos are either on the payroll of the political-real estate-miners cabal or are otherwise rewarded in kind for toeing the party line. If you want to call it by a more benign name, that's fine by me :-) I was going to write that this is an "open secret" but I realized that we can safely drop the word "secret." The collusion is quite open. I do not, of course, mean that every single Goan journalist is corrupt. The underlings who have little editorial control or are otherwise lower in the pecking order do their job dutifully. But the evidence that the Goan media has been completely corrupted is in the end product - based on what is printed. Or more precisely, what is not! We have the case of an ex-editor who was given cash out of public treasury by Digu, we have journos who have been awarded govt grants while claiming to be "independent journalists," we have well known media figures wined and dined by the builders' mafia, and so on. Why do you think there is NOT A SINGLE investigative story in the Goan media all these years? Corruption is everywhere in Goa, yet not a single report of it in the newspapers. When I was posting photos every other day of the illegalities here on Goanet, Admin Noronha claimed I that had a vested interest for putting on my "green garb," he spread gossip that I must have an ulterior agenda calculated to bring BJP to power, that I must be secretly supported by Manohar Parrikar, and so on. Now we know that it is actually Admin Noronha who has to do some explaining. Why was he playing down the goings-on in Goa? Was he being paid by anyone to whitewash the destruction? After all, the politicians, the miners, the builders, all had a strong motive in keeping a lid on their activities. Admin Noronha, who has an illustrious record of smearing others with innuendo, has been ducking these questions for quite a while now. We also know that Admin Noronha has come out in support of those who pulled a con job on Goans. Like the ex-convener of the GBA who public admitted that he had "danced footsie" with the Kangress.
