City techie falls into honey trap in Goa A man posing as a Russian girl and three others rob software engineer, beat him black and blue
T S Sreenivasa Raghavan Posted On Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 07:48:39 AM A city-based techie went to Goa to have a great time with a Russian girl, but ended up with broken fingers, bruises on the face and body, and loss to the tune of Rs 50,000. He realised, though late, that he had been cheated by a man posing as a girl. Anil Singh, an MNC employee, happened to meet the Goa-based ‘Russian girl’ on the Facebook one and a half months ago. When ‘she’ invited Anil to Goa, he immediately accepted the offer. He landed at the airport on Nov 24 and telephoned the ‘girl’ to announce his arrival. Superintendent of Police A N C Veenu Bansal told Bangalore Mirror over phone from Goa that Anil had no idea what he was getting into. The ‘girl’ said Anil would be picked up by two guys at the airport. They did arrive and drove him to a remote place, where two others joined them, including Shawn Fernandez, 27, who had posed as the girl. They beat him black and blue, robbed him of his valuables, including credit/ debit cards, a laptop, cellphones and an iPod. They tried to withdraw cash using his debit card but his account had a balance of only Rs 3,000. The gang later asked him to call his friends in Bangalore and remit Rs 1 lakh in his account. But they managed to remit Rs 50,000, of which Rs 45,000 was withdrawn. The gang let off Anil on the condition that he takes only a bus to Bangalore. Meanwhile, Anil’s friends called the Goa police for help. By then, Anil had left the place. After persuasion, he returned to Goa on Nov 25 and lodged a police complaint. The same night, all the four were arrested and most of the stolen valuables were recovered. Besides Fernandez, the other three were identified as Saleem Qureshi, 30, Manish Srivastav, 24, and Danish Khan, 27. http://www.bangaloremirror.com/article/10/2010113020101130074838951a48c2a9/City-techie-falls-into-honey-trap-in-Goa.html * * * 'Russian girl': Vasco cops take over TNN, Nov 28, 2010, 06.18am IST VASCO: The ANC which had arrested four accused for cheating and robbing an IT engineer from Bangalore, handed the four over to the Vasco police late Saturday evening.
