One weekend... I found a husband

As the plane taxied towards the runway, I couldn’t wait to escape the cold and dreary weather outside.

It was December and I was on my way to Goa for three weeks of sun and total relaxation. A friend had asked me to join her on holiday at the last minute and I jumped at the chance. It certainly made a change from the freezing British Christmases I’d had before.

After a long flight, we checked into a guest house in the small village of Calangute in northern Goa. As I struggled with my bulging suitcase, a tall, good-looking man caught my eye and helped me with my heavy luggage.

Over the next few days we got chatting. His name was Bernard and he ran the guesthouse with his brothers. A week passed and we were spending more time together. Bernard drove a motorbike and took me to the best beaches I’ve ever seen.

Then, one night, we kissed. We’d been to a ball and Bernard made his move on the dance floor.
