-- Samir Umarye BICHOLIM DEC 7: Even as recently there were 22 cases of Malaria reported at the site of the Bicholim PHC building which is
under construction due to lack of toilet facility and sanitation the Sanquelim PHC building site also runs the risk ran sof facing a similar fate. It may be stated that recently there were about 22 malaria cases reported in Bicholim that came from the construction site of the new PHC Bicholim. The Bicholim health officer, Dr Jude D'souza served a notice to the concerned authorities and told that it was only because of the poor facilities given to the labourers. "The labourers were not having any toilet facility and even the water was remaining stagnent in the area which caused malaria" Dr D'souza had told Herald earlier. Following this incident Dr D'souza had immediately asked them to provide toilet facility to the labourers who otherwise answered their nature's call in the open space. After this incident when Herald tried to investigate it was reveled that even the construction site at Sanquelim where the construction of Primary Health Centre is going on there is no toilet facility provided by the authorities. The work of the building is going on since last one year and even after an year the contractor has failed to provide proper facilities to the labourers. At present there are about 25 labourers working on the site. Some stay at the construction site while others stay at other places. There are two water tanks that are overflowing and the water could be seen stagnating near a heap of pipe. Even as most of the work of the building is over still it is surprising to note that the contractor has till not provided any toilet facilities to the labourers and is likely to be the next place for spreading of Malaria.
