Wilmix bab,
Nothing stops anyone from accepting the Roman script for konkani except the
monetary benefits accrued through transcripting literature and minimum
competition. This assures that a select few are assured a fair share of the
funds of the Goa konkani Academy. Language in devanagiri script has become big
business for some. It also gives a sense of power and control to some
inferiority afflicted and fascist minded goans. This is similar to the
controversy about super malls versus small businesses. Open konkani to the
roman script in all dealings of government and it will increase competition for
jobs, publications, and as rightly said, will become the most popular script as
it will be easy to use. This will eliminate the interests of these few who have
been able to enjoy some attention till now. This controversy is all part of the
larger 'Swadeshi' agenda of keeping the masses away from foreign education or
job opportunites so that the kith and kin of the affluent oppressive sections
of this country can avail of them and continue to dominate and control the
politics of oppression. Giving a fare well to the 'Sagres' ship is
anti-national but receiving an award from the Portuguese government by an upper
caste goan entrepreneur is a matter of pride for desh premis.
It is that simple.
