More information on Goa Sudharop award winner Ramesh Gauns - Working as teacher for the last 30 yrs, Ramesh Gauns is well-known for his work in highlighting the irreparable damage being caused to Goa by indiscriminate mining. Besides this, he has worked for more than 3 decades amongst youth to inculcate in them values of humanity, universal brotherhood, secularism and national integration. As a social activist he has conducted anti-superstition campaigns, encouraged inter-caste marriages and carried out peace missions in areas where there has been rioting and strife. He has co-ordinated many Citizens initiatives for Communal Harmony both at the national level and more importantly in Goa so as to preserve peace and the unique social fabric we have here. He has also been a co-ordinator for environmental movements to save and preserve the bio-diversity of the Western Ghats.
