Tiatr Academy of Goa’s monthly programme ‘Kolakarak Bhett’ (Meet the Artiste) will be held on 17th January 2011 at 4:30 pm at Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG), Campal Trade Center, Panjim. The tiatr artiste of this month is Shri. Prince Jacob.

Minguel Jacob Carmo Luis Fernandes popularly known as Prince Jacob is the most popular tiatr artiste of present times. He is one of the few artistes, who always introduced innovations on the tiatr stage.

Making a debut at the age of 13 years, in Rosario Dias’ tiatr “Chuk Hanvem Adharli” in 1973, Prince Jacob turned out to be an artiste who always experimented on tiatr stage. He always introduced novelties and innovations on the tiatr stage. Some of the examples are:- Opening chorus of the tiatr with attractive and meaningful sceneries, intelligent and innovative comedy sequences, use of magic on tiatr stage and also introduced illusions in his tiatrs. He made use of a living dog to act in his tiatr. He also cast a handicapped person in real life to act the role of a handicapped in his tiatr.

His first tiatr was “Pinzrem”. The tiatrs written by him were named in such a way that the name started with letter ‘P’. For example, ‘Pinzrem’, ‘Pavnnek’, ‘Pordexi’, ‘Pangllo’, ‘Poltodd’, ‘Poixe-Poixe’, ‘Patkam’, ‘Pisso’, ‘Podvi’, ‘Put’, ‘Posco’, etc. In this way he wrote, directed and staged 25 tiatrs, the 25th being “Padri”. All his productions starting with the letter ‘P’ were smashing hits while the last production “Padri” became the first tiatr in history to complete 315 performances.

After 25 productions starting with letter ‘P’, he started another chain of productions names of which begin with letter ‘R’. For example ‘Raja-Rani’, ‘Rostad’, ‘Rag’, ‘Rupia’, ‘Rontto’, ‘Rogot’, ‘Rudan’, ‘Randponn’, ‘Rajvodki’, etc, are some of the examples.

In all Prince Jacob has produced 49 tiatrs till date, all of which has given real satisfaction to the audience and has made Prince Jacob a household name. ‘Rupnnem’ was his 37th production. For the first time in the history of Konkani tiatr, a full length Marathi drama ‘Sahi Re Sahi’ is translated in Konkani and converted into a tiatr by Prince Jacob. ‘Sahi Re Sahi’ written by Kedar Shinde is presently running successfully in Maharashtra.

His tiatr ‘Zaiat-Zage’ was awarded the Best Drama & Best Script at the First Popular Tiatr Festival 2009 organized by Tiatr Academy of Goa in February-March 2010.

Prince Jacob is a good lyricist and a singer too. So far he has produced 11 Konkani Albums. On the occasion of 50 years of Independence of our country, he produced an album, “Aids-achi Pidda” which was dedicated to the selfless people fighting against the spread of this disease. He has also produced Konkani Films, (1) Celluloid Film – ‘Padri’ and (2) HD Film – ‘Roddonaka’.

Prince Jacob is not only an excellent artiste, but an excellent human being too. He is a social worker with a difference. A patriot who is proud to be an Indian. He uses certain percentage of his earnings for human causes such as helping the sick, raising funds towards Road Activities Victim Trust, helping the fighting against Aids, helping financially for the formation of Priests and Nuns, collecting funds for patriotic causes, etc.

Prince Jacob is a living example of success through hard work. Besides achieving name, fame and money his work has been appreciated and recognized by many institutions. He has been decorated with numerous awards conferred on him by institutions and individuals in and outside Goa.
