MARGAO: Tension prevailed in Kavrem on Friday evening with villagers blocking roads after a mining truck knocked down a two-wheeler. The motorcycle rider, Chandrakant Devidas, sustained injuries in the accident that occurred at around 3.30pm.
Incensed villagers then resorted to a rasta roko and blocked the movement of mining trucks, protesting against the failure of authorities to regulate mining traffic. Deputy collector, Quepem, Agnelo Fernandes rushed to the site to take stock of the situation. The road blockade continued till late evening.
