Hindi would be Rundi. People tend to hear the a, as opposed to the u, although I believe in Urdu it is inflected with and a, so Randi! Could be wrong, but a visit to the kasai (butcher) may be helpful. These words are within spoken Konkani -- the Konkani spoken by our people living in the Mumbai slums etc. I kmow this. This does not mean they are speaking correctly -- just that as randi sounds -- its in use. But again its not correct, and its pointed out in good spirit.
Many words appear very close, are homonyms. Its like the Konkani words for bone, bring and beard. They are pronounced differently, but all speakers may not be up to it -- just the reality. But we are also loosing our ability to hear, have grown up differently, depending on the families etc. THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL. There are people who live in the Middle East but speak Konkani at a high level. Its not necessariily that they made some high choice, It often also simply happens that way -- context and reality dependent. They had the language chops and are using it. Corrections help, and as with anything may be done in many ways.
