Therefore, not a great leader, just a simply at the right place, right time with the right speech. He was the dictator, a guy who had the right message but never in touch with the people. [2] There is the other doktor dude from Saligao, pretty much the same. He will tell you stories of what he did for Goa....all squat. These guys never understood what it meant to be a leader, not had too much of a vision. He simply had time on his hands, never embraced the Goan people, never much cared for them, rather dictated to them from their perches. [3] These are the PRESIDENTS set by these folks resulted in the present crop of gaaunti-leader (pardon the expression, there is no other phrase to describe the robber-baron politicians of today)
RESPONSE: I submit that the person hiding under the purdah of Pandu Lampiao not only is quite unaware of Drs. Jack and Willie, he also has some nerve to spew venom from the shadow of the bushes. I personally knew/know both these distinguished doctors and I can testify what they have done for Goa. For, while it might be true that I was just a young teen-age college student when Jack led the anti-merger fight (and put his own money). I traveled throughout Goa with Jack, Babu Naik, Yeshwant Sitaram Desai, Baba Salmarkar, Erasmo et al .....and photographed every single meeting for the Opinion Poll with the help of my little Kodak box camera, I heard ALL the speakers, I met most of the taxi drivers who ferried us to and from the campaign sites.... BUT, I never saw Pandu anywhere (even though I know who he is). So what nonsense is he about? Dr. Jack and Dr. Willie (like myself) (do not know about Pandu) may have had and have their imperfections, but for heaven's sake ....when you do not know, please find out or at least sit quietly in the corner instead of libeling others. I did not see Dr. Willie publicly involved with the Opinion Poll - not at least at the campaign events. He was later my mentor and Associate Professor of Surgery. I wish he had stayed on in Medicine alone - and discerned that politics is not played on the same ground rules as Medicine AND that in politics, to survive, one has to make deals with 'low lifes', 'creeps', people who will be ungrateful' and others who will just be plain miserable because that is what they do best. BUT, he wanted to change the disastrous Zhalaach Pahije nonsense that was going on at GMC. Much as much as we pleaded with him NOT to enter into / continue with politics, he was convinced (perhaps like Arwin and some others who preach) that he could save GMC and hence Goa. Ah Well! I repeat in support of Jack and Willie: Their imperfections (as though I am perfect)( Pandu perhaps is) having been noted, only a blatantly unaware person (I avoided the word 'ignorant' as I would be rude) will cast aspersions on what good they actually did. If pushed reasonably, honestly and openly, I could tell you the chaps from Mapuca (a deSouza .....not related to my family) and St. Andre (before Pagado) who benefited from Jack and then succumbed to a bus licence here and a truck license there.....courtesy the master Zhalacch Pahije-ist and started the trend to where we are IN COLLUSION with the MGP. There was an important facilitator (perhaps from Assolna) in the Secretariat and a couple of mined newspapers who did the rest. Lambert, perhaps never realised How Sorrowing his land would lie, while he did nothing much besides publish a monthly and look after the cement mini-monstrosity at Colva beach. I will skip #4 above as I did not know what power Jack and Willie had/have wrt Presidents. sincerely jc
