Sanvordem news in Pics– Fasting, mining trucks, pollution dust, fields etc Today we went to extend our support to those 1+6 who were supposed to go on fast unto death. We arrived around 2.30pm.
We saw 4 (some of them may be visitors or friend or family) We took their names as Gerad d’ Cunha, Ajit Perulekar (sleeping/partially seen) Gaja Pednekar and Damu Naik We asked if ny MLA came to visit, they said no except dy.collector and another visited they said We took local transport from Margao takes about an hour via Vishant Road, Paroda, Quepem Fare Rs.15. Just before reaching Curchorem or after Tilamol we counted 113 loaded mining trucks parked on one side of the road until Sanvordem (I guess this was due to shool timings). We came returned back just in 30 minutes and at this time we counted over 250 trucks Time was around 3.15pm either moving or lined up. Again this was from Sanvordem till Quepem city (about 8kms). Houses, plants, trees by the road side turned red. Policemen on the road seen wearing masks so also the riders of two wheelers. Traffic never been smooth on this road always truck coming in both direction Imagine, over 250 trucks we counted on about 7 km stretch (we lost count). Tried to capture some on our video camera. Don’t know what’s going to happen these people in the long run due to this mining dust pollution. >From Quepem to Sanvordem is only about 25 minutes j ourney by bus and we could feel the dust on our faces. I feel piety for these people. Reminded me of the konkani film ‘alisha’ which was about the mining pollution etc. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5409895019/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5410504226/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5411050328/ mining Trucks http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5410443121/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5411051940/sizes/l/ Fields (captured from moving bus) http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5411055696/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk32/5410446913/sizes/l/ Quote: After a successful Curchorem BANDH on 27th Jan, Ganv Rakhon Jagrut Manch of Curchorem is starting the second leg of their agitation against mining pollution and?traffic hazards in the fifth most populous?municipality of Goa and land acquisition for wealthy miners paying peanuts to the aam admi. ?
