To Goanet - After finishing with my early morning photo shoot, I settled into a pao-bhaji and chao at Cafe Aram today in Panjim. Vasco Pinho was on his daily morning constitutional and he spotted me from the sidewalk outside. I invited him to join me.

Parrikar <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, January 30, 2011 7:04:53 AM Subject: Goa, our Goa - new book by Vasco Pinho To Goanet - I spent an enjoyable evening with Vasco Pinho today in Panjim. He has recently released his latest work "Goa, our Goa - a faithful account of yesteryear" (Rs 495/-, self-published; Email: [email protected]) This is a delightful collection of snack-sized vignettes. Cyril D'Cunha has reviewed the book in today's Herald (Sun, Jan 30). I have written about Vasco-bab earlier (* see link below). He is a type that is now increasingly rare in Goa - the old world gentleman. He maintains a low profile. Not for him the fanfare accompanying book releases, or other stunts to draw attention to himself. All his volumes have been self-published. I hope an organization like Goa Sudharop can rope him in for one of their events. These books deserve to be read by all Goans (and other people interested in Goa as it was until recently). I haven't had time to read the book (I got my signed copy only this evening), but the cover jacket caught my attention. It features a collage of photographs of the store boards in Panjim that retain Portuguese signage (like Casa, Loja, Agençia etc etc). Very clever touch, that. * See - http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2010-July/196313.html Regards, r
